Lived Experiences of Critical Multicultural Educators in a Climate of Anti–Critical Race Theory

Abstract

Current political postures and legislative acts have continued to
degrade, limit, and attempt to restrain the consideration of multicultural concepts
and critical considerations of race, gender and ethnicity in teacher education
programs, as well as the k-12 curriculum and content. How do faculty, currently
teaching these “diversity” courses, continue to teach and maintain integrity when
the system itself is being rewritten to deny the legitimacy of such courses in the
21st century? Using the Currere Method, three professors reflect, imagine, and
consider their roles as education faculty working to provide a critical multicultural
foundation for teacher candidates as they continue to teach ever diversifying
populations of students in the 21st century.
