Sun, April 16, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

The ongoing pandemic has disrupted global higher education and posed challenges to students' wellbeing. Drawing on control value theory, this study aims to fill this gap by understanding the combined experiences of stress, coping, sense of belonging, learning-related emotions, and academic burnout and their relationships. A structural equation model has been proposed and examined. Results show A sense of belonging to a university may reduce the risk of burnout, and this mechanism can be enhanced through effective coping strategies and positive academic-related emotions. The study provides education providers with information that facilitates better understanding and support for tertiary students, which is crucial to maintaining the psychological wellbeing and resilience of students.
