United Playaz: Bangin' in a Different Way

Today, San Francisco’s United Playaz offers a comprehensive grassroots violence prevention and youth leadership development program in various schools and detention centers. With a main purpose “to stop violence and enforce education” (Watson, 2012, p. 47), UP is a community-based organization that works during the school day, after school, within communities, and at their center to promote its mission. Recently, they have built a custom recording studio in their home base and helped produce local youth Hip-Hop artists in San Francisco.
