Abstract

The following paper uses critical geography to introduce a new theoretical tool for measuring oppression and power dynamics occurring within space and time in our education spaces. Building off Edward Sonja’s (2010) theoretical tool of spatial (in)justice, I present a new analytical tool called spatial injustice audits. Adopting a critical inquiry approach, I highlight the field of critical geography and Soja’s (2010) concept of spatial (in)justice and integrate it into the field of education. This paper will define and layout the purpose of spatial injustice audits and demonstrate an example of how to apply this newly developed tool I conclude by offering a validation technique to check the severity of spatial injustice.
