Abstract

The growing body of literature on the experience of Latinx students and families in diaspora areas is expanding. However, Idaho continues the periphery. This qualitative study explores and documents the experience of five Mexican and Mexican American im/migrant students in rural Idaho. Data included field notes, interviews, and research memos. Findings from this study shed light on how Mexican im/migrant students drew from familial support, leveraging their aspirational and familial capital (Yosso, 2005) as they negotiated well-being and success in a public rural high school. This study contributes to the growing literature on Latinx student and family experience in rural diaspora settings.
