Reading skills have been adapting with the rise of technology, therefore finding how the usage, availability, and attitudes towards Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) affect reading performance is growing in relevance. However, the relationship between reading and ICT has yielded mixed results. The current study investigates the relationship between ICT and reading scores in the PISA 2018 data gathered from n = 6,404 15-year-old Mexican students. Results using an SEM approach found that (1) high availability and excessive usage of ICT negatively affected reading performance and (2) socio-economic status was a significant predictor of reading performance.
