"Like Running Water": Intersectional Consciousness Among Black Women Special Education Faculty

Abstract

In this qualitative interview study, we endeavored to understand the experiences, positionality, and intersectional consciousness of Black women faculty in special education. Special education’s troubled past, as it relates to students of color , continues despite persistent efforts among committed educators, families, and communities. Findings from this study speak to the 2023 annual meeting call for submissions by examining how participants are “disrupting ableism, racism, and sexism”–as well as systemic oppression at the intersections–in their roles as P-20+ educators.
