Fri, April 14, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 6th Floor, Purdue/Wisconsin

Abstract

In the current study, we present findings from the second phase of a research endeavor exploring changes in middle-level teachers’ instructional approaches through virtual professional development focused on culturally responsive instruction (CRI). The following research questions guided this study: (a) What are changes in the self-efficacy beliefs of middle-level teachers engaged in virtual professional development devoted to CRI?; (b) How do middle-level teachers’ culturally responsive approaches change through their participation in virtual professional development in CRI?; and (c) What are teachers’ perceptions of CRI and their experiences with middle-level students? Findings suggest that participating teachers experienced changes in their implementation of CRI and positive shifts in their self-efficacy beliefs through their participation in virtual professional development.
