Gifted Profiles of Hope: How Hope Predicts a Talent Development Psychosocial Profile in Gifted Students (Poster 19)

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between clusters of hope and a psychosocial profile of academic talent development (ATD) among 466 academically gifted adolescents. First, cluster analysis is leveraged to determine whether interpretable three- and four-hope cluster solutions can be found in an academically gifted sample. Second, differences among psychosocial variables that predict ATD were examined to assess whether hope clusters were meaningfully related to psychosocial profiles of ATD. An interpretable three-hope cluster solution was found, with the clusters exhibiting meaningfully different profiles of ATD. The high-hope cluster reported the psychosocial profile most conducive to ATD, followed by the average-hope cluster and the low-hope cluster, respectively. These findings have implications for both academic talent development and hope theory.
