This paper examines how urban educators who participated in a series of professional development sessions from February 2020 – June 2021 learned to enact culturally relevant pedagogy while shifting their work with students online in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data examined are from a larger on-going qualitative inquiry about educators’ learning in the Culturally Relevant Education Professional Development (CRE-PD), a district-wide initiative, and include Zoom recordings of CRE-PD sessions, individual and focus group interviews with participants, and participant-generated artifacts. Findings generate new insights into teacher learning, including how participants navigated the technology learning curve and sought to share what they learned with colleagues in attempts to enact school-wide change, and provide examples of culturally relevant pandemic pedagogies.
