A Study of Indonesian Children's Literacy and English Language Learning in the United States

Abstract

This present study describes the literacy experience and English language learning of three Indonesians children who live in the United States. The research questions are 1) What are Indonesian children's literacy and English language learning experiences at home and community? 2) What are Parent's perspectives of their learning in these settings? 3) To what extent community affect children literacy and language learning. The ethnographic case study approach is utilized and the data sources include interviews, audio and video recordings, artifacts, and fieldnotes. Major themes from findings 1) Home literacy and English language practice 2) Community literacy and English language practice, 3) Parents' beliefs about their children's language learning and literacy experiences, 4) The use of technology in learning
