Abstract

In this paper, I discuss an experimental approach aligned to certain theoretical and methodological concepts. I begin by exploring the theme of the most recent American Educational Research Association conference. On this basis, I discuss a specific experimental method and provide examples of three studies which have employed the method in differing contexts. These methods recapitulate the epistemological assumptions of Vygotsky and Luria and align to the call for submissions by the American Educational Research Association and the Cultural-Historical Special Interest Group. During the discussion, I explore contradictions related to the conference theme to incorporate Vygotsky’s discussion of dialectical negation. I conclude with recommendations for direct action that might establish the relationships necessary for consequential research.
