Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how U.S. school districts have acted to improve school climate, before and during the pandemic. School climate is increasingly a priority for most education agencies, but there is little known about what school districts are actually doing, descriptively, when it comes to school climate improvement. We interviewed school district and building leaders among a diverse sample of districts in one U.S. state to better understand their school climate improvement practices, which they deem most impactful, and how they chose the interventions they did. A major part of school climate improvement is collecting data to measure it, and data use is a central part of our inquiry.
