Case Studies of School Employee Sexual Misconduct: An Everyday Experience

Sun, April 16, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Swissôtel Chicago, Floor: Lucerne Level, Lucerne 3

Abstract

This session will review school employee sexual misconduct – the abuse of students by school personnel – a safety and wellness issue that affects an estimated 10% of K-12 students. Victims of sexual abuse suffer serious psychological, physical, academic, and behavioral issues that can last a lifetime. School employee sexual misconduct costs our nation millions of dollars each year in police investigations, health effects, prosecution, and civil litigation. Presenters will review prevalence and incident studies, victim and offender characteristics, loopholes in our hiring, monitoring and investigations, state and federal legislation, and high profile court cases.
