Rural schools are finding it harder to attract and retain educators, both teachers and leaders. Additional research is needed to understand the interconnection of rural spaces and the role of leadership decision-making related to the four-day week as an educator retention strategy. The purpose of this study was to understand the perceptions of educators in a rural region of the western U.S. as they related to the implementation of the 4-day week as a retention strategy. The study collected data from teachers and superintendents through interviews and a survey instrument. The methodological approach was a mixed approach of qualitative and quantitative inquiry. The findings illuminate the positive influence the 4-day week had on perceptions of employees in rural school districts.
