Abstract

In response to the call for more research on the effect of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, we explored the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), aiming to promote gender-equitable online education for female students. As potential gender-equitable mechanisms for online learning, we explored ICT access and uses for learning. To conduct the empirical investigation, we analyzed data from students who experienced an emergency online transition during the 2020 spring semester in a large public university, using a structural equation model. Our findings offer an empirical support for ICT uses for learning to enhance online education for female students. We discuss the implications of our findings in the context of improving gender-equitable education during the (post) COVID-19 era.
