We developed a design framework for fun online learning experiences and applied these activities to an introductory statistics course at a U.S public university in order to investigate the effectiveness of this design framework on learners’ attitudes toward statistics, learning outcomes, and the learning environment. Data were collected from pre-and post-surveys, final test scores, and interviews. The results indicated that designed fun online learning experiences have a significant impact on learners’ cognitive competence and learning outcomes. Learners also felt that they enjoyed the interactions with their professor and classmates in the safe online learning environment provided. These findings suggest that this design framework could be a useful guideline for those designing fun online learning activities.
