Abstract

Hidden curricula are invisible norms, values, and beliefs that operate within the social interactions of school communities and determine how power and praise are earned. Hidden curricula can have both positive and negative impacts upon the distribution of power within a community.This paper aims to unpack K-12 public school site leaders' understanding of hidden curricula, and how hidden curricula operate to maintain a legacy of hierarchical leadership operations in K-12 public schools. Through a phenomenological research approach and conceptual framework Critical Race Theory this paper will explore the intersection of hidden curricula, hierarchical leadership, and distributed leadership models in K-12 public schools.
