Refusing to Be Lynched: Male Teacher Educators of Color Speaking Truth to Power

Sat, April 15, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), SwissĂ´tel Chicago, Floor: Lucerne Level, Alpine II

Abstract

Although many U.S. teacher education programs have increased efforts in recruiting, training, and retaining preservice teachers of Color, teacher educators of Color remain underrepresented and marginalized in most programs. Using critical race theory as the framework, two male teacher educators of Color (Black and Asian) employed duoethnography to share their counterstories of refusing to be lynched in two teacher education programs on the West Coast. Implications include how male teacher educators of Color can collaborate across the color line to build interracial solidarity and speak truth to power collectively.
