Abstract

Previous research studies have highlighted the disparities in African American male educational outcomes. Nonetheless, why African American males do not have equitable access in college and career opportunities remains poorly understood. There is still a gap in the empirical knowledge on pre-collegiate African American male career and technical education students’ preparation for college and careers. The present study builds on the empirical knowledge of African American male education and extends the work on the educational attainment of African American males by looking specifically at concrete evidence by which pre-collegiate African American males engage in career and technical education courses they consider important for preparation for college and careers.
