Abstract

This paper titled “The Souls of [Black] Teachers: A Participatory Action Research Approach Engaging Teachers with Pro-Black Communities” contributes to an emerging body of research that demonstrates how participatory action research forges empowering practices while concurrently facilitating teachers’ professional learning, with and within the community, in culturally and socially meaningful ways. This research highlights the knowledge, skills, attitudes, beliefs, mindsets, worldview, consciousness, and dispositions, that is to say, the souls of Black teachers, while disrupting dominant narratives of whose knowledge counts as meaningful and necessary when considering education policies and practices aimed at Black students, families, and communities.
