Abstract

This literature review serves to examine what the current educational research literature shows about how teacher educators (TEs) and pre-service teachers (PSTs) decenter Whiteness in literacy education by using children’s literature. Educators reify white supremacy by enacting race-evasive practices. Children's literature should be operationalized to counteract race-evasiveness and decenter Whiteness in literacy instruction. Racial noticing is a praxis that educators and students can use to counter race-evasion and co-create critical consciousness towards humanization.
