Effects of Postsecondary Interventions on Academic Outcomes of Community College Students With Children (Poster 26)

Abstract

Very little causal research focuses on programs that support parenting students’ academic achievement and lifelong trajectories. Utilizing a QuantCrit perspective and The Higher Education Randomized Control Trials (THE-RCT), a national dataset combining several RCTs across community colleges, I aim to expand our understanding of postsecondary programming affecting a group of students often left out of education policy discussions. Specifically, I will 1) examine the treatment effects of education interventions on parenting students versus non-parenting students, 2) measure potential gaps in estimated effects across interventions and 3) across sites, and 4) examine if gaps are related to intervention- or campus-level characteristics. This study will inform practitioners and policymakers on where further investment can be fruitful for parenting students.
