Global Trends and Challenges: An Analysis of National Educational Technology Plans in 20 Countries (Poster 7)

Abstract

By analyzing the latest national educational technology plans from 20 countries that differ in terms of economic development, cultural and educational traditions, and geographical locations, this study aims to identify the top priorities in using technology to improve and transform education around the world, examine global development trends and regional differences, and identify challenges commonly faced by most countries. Some primary findings include global trends in most commonly shared educational goals, new expectations for teachers’ active roles in using technology in education, more diverse expectations for the role of technology, increasing emphasis on technology-based assessment, growing interest in digital citizenship, and several shared challenges. Findings have important implications for future research, practice, and policymaking in educational technology.
