Abstract

In this paper, the authors raise questions as to the theoretical and methodological challenges to the role of implementation in RPP, especially those taking up design-based interventions, like design-based implementation studies. Using illustrative vignettes, the authors elucidate the constraints on essential, innovative adaptations that practitioners make when implementing curricula. The purpose of these vignettes is to illustrate the theoretical argument in favor of greater attention to the affordances of adaptation by those tasked with implementing curriculum and learning activities produced in RPPs. The discussion and findings analyze the affordances of adaptive implementation and identify paths forward for educational researchers to design for and evaluate adaptive implementation within RPPs.
