Abstract

In 1975, the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) grant was created to assist the higher education attainment of migrant workers through the United States Office of Migrant Education (OME) (Madrid, 2019). According to the National Agricultural Workers Survey Report, 78% of all US farmworkers are Hispanic or Latino (2022). This qualitative case study explores the recruitment and application process of eight CAMP Scholars. The data sources are interviews, field notes, and meeting observations. The research question is: What factors influence eligible Latinx students recruitment and participation in a new CAMP program in the Mid-Atlantic region? The findings identify three primary factors of influence: identification of eligible students, making personalized connections, and support in the application process.
