Teacher education programs across the country are dedicated to developing quality educators to teach in K-12 classrooms. We contend that more studies of PhDness (Hughes & Bridges-Rhoads, 2013) among current/future teacher educators are needed to better understand the development, philosophies, and pedagogies of teacher educators generally. In this study, we use collective autoethnography (Ellis et al., 2011) with artful inquiry to examine our experiences as PhD students and teacher educators. Through mixed-media denim jackets, biweekly conversations, and vignette writing, we interrogated tensions related to challenging the status quo in teacher education. Ultimately, our work led us to identify pedagogical dissonance (Bradbury, 2018) in teacher education classrooms.
