Abstract

Literacy scholars have explored emerging concepts of movement and affect through posthuman theories. These concepts expand conventional notions of literacy and mobility to attend to the movement of social life, described as cultural “flows”. Within such mobile flows lived realities become reimagined as complex, form of literacies characterized by the intra-connectedness to local and global contexts. Inspired by Tricia Rose’s mechanization of the Hip Hop properties as alternative philosophical practices, this theoretical paper takes up these conceptions as affective possibilities that do not take whiteness as a starting point to offer a new and specific sociohistorical understanding of movement/sound/vibration that embraces “otherwise possibilities” for literacies, by imagining mobilities that theorize affect in relation to Black aesthetic frameworks and literacy futurism.
