Abstract

The Black & Brown Brothers Teaching (B3T) Initiative provides financial, academic, and social/emotional support for males of color pursuing a degree in Urban Education. Its cohort model and robust supports are designed to alleviate common obstacles faced by men of color in their pursuit of a college degree and employment as an elementary school teacher. The purpose of this study is to examine the first four years of the B3T initiative design and implementation, and its challenges and successes in meeting the learning needs of the initiative’s first cohort of seven participants at a large urban university.
