Abstract

This mixed methods study seeks to determine the ways in which Black women are perceived and perceive themselves at the academic level via language. It discusses topics such as code-switching, racism, tenure, and linguistic racism. In this experiment, students and faculty are surveyed and interviewed in an effort to discover how Black women's use of language impacts their credibility, openness, and general sway of the classroom at the university level. It is expected that variables such as age, class demographics, topic of study, and college will impact the results of this paper.
