Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically impacted the K-12 education system in the United States. Though researchers have begun to examine how the pandemic impacted students, limited research has explored the perspectives of educators on changes that resulted from the pandemic and on the effects on students and school staff. This study uses qualitative methods to address this gap. Results suggest that the pandemic facilitated a variety of changes that led to either negative, mixed, or positive outcomes for students and educators. This study highlights the stress educators experienced throughout the pandemic, while also underscoring the resilience of educators and students and the benefits of specific pandemic led initiatives, including social-emotional learning and individualized instruction.
