Thu, April 13, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 6th Floor, Iowa

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative muti-case meta-synthesis is to gain a deeper understanding of essential program features and the factors and forces that influence the way three different teacher preparation programs from three different universities prepare teachers of young adolescents are designed, implemented, and evaluated. Findings reveal essential program features (e.g., partnerships, clinical practice with young adolescent learners, responsive curricula, and faculty commitment and engagement) and influential factors (e.g., organizational structure of the school system, policy frameworks and accountability regimes, and teacher labor market conditions). Implications for teacher preparation program development, implementation, and refinement along with policy considerations are explored.
