Reimagining Teacher Education Through University-School Partnership: Learning About Preservice Teachers' Perceptions of Theory-to-Practice Transition

Abstract

Through a shared leadership collaborative approach, we aim to bring together teacher educators, school teachers, and community partners to co-construct a shared laboratory space putting pre-service teachers in a direct contact with the school reality while solving complex and real problems of the 21st century school. As first steps of this project, we conducted a survey of our 2022 graduates about their perception of the program, in particularly regarding theory-to-practice connection. Based on their experience during in-school practicum, the participants expressed a need for more practice-based professional learning. They find that a better alignment between the theory and the school reality would help them to become better teachers. These results will guide us through the next stages of school-university collaboration
