Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in a Complex, Collaborative STEM Reform Initiative Focused on Broadening Participation

Abstract

This paper examines how principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) were found in a complex, collaborative STEM reform initiative as the project has worked to become a collective change organization. Guided by the Inclusive Professional Framework, we qualitatively examine how the project has grappled with the internal application of DEI principles, and how the presence or absence of DEI-related qualities have impacted their organizational performance. The purpose of this paper is to advance these questions and provide practical, data-informed recommendations for similar higher education reform projects.
