This qualitative study examined the impact of racial microaggressions on the identity development of Afro-Latinas. Using Critical Race Theory and Critical Race Feminism as frameworks, counterstorytelling was used to center the voices and experiences of participants. Data show that experiencing racial microaggressions resulted in decreased self-esteem, decreased sense of belonging, and increased symptoms of depression. Data also showed that intragroup microaggressions experienced within the Black and Latinx communities had a negative impact on their identity development.
