Thu, April 13, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

In traditional public education settings, students and educators occupy similar spaces, but those shared spaces and classroom experiences rarely lend to a mutual understanding of how motivation and self-perception are connected, this is especially true with high school students of color. There are a number of theories that professional development and teacher support resources are built from and this study seeks to explore the value of combining theories and frameworks to help establish tangible resources for educators. Ultimately, bringing Equity theory, Motivational framework, and Culturally Responsive Teaching together will enhance the existing methods for supporting educators in facilitating a dynamic classroom experience for both student and teacher.
