Subversion and Usurpation of Multicultural Education in Teacher Education: Implications, Interrogation, and Disruption

Abstract

Not so long ago, multicultural education garnered momentous embracement and support in education, especially teacher education. For the past decade or so, the language of multicultural education let alone its discourse had vanished in the teacher education practice and literature. Is multicultural education dead in teacher education? Observation is that it rarely exists these days or at best is not what it once was, prompting critical multicultural scholars asking: What happened to multicultural education? This paper aims to provoke critical conversation about the absence or the potential demise of multicultural education in teacher education. I highlight grave consequences, implications, and call for an urgency to interrogate and disrupt this reality.
