Facilitated Learning in a Museum Makerspace

Abstract

This paper presents data from a museum makerspace in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States and examines facilitation in it, providing a practice-based explanation of facilitation in maker-based learning experiences through these examples. We expanded on Lee et al's (2018) study by framing facilitation as the following: Treating Participants As Unique, Lead by Supporting. The researchers created a new code for cases of facilitation that they discovered but did not fit into an existing one. With this knowledge, educator professional development in maker educational contexts may be informed by a more thorough and practice-based conception of facilitation.
