Imma Tell My Kids CRT Bans Were the Exception, Not the Rule

Abstract

Educational policy and legislation are often unquestionably heralded as the most optimal means to attaining racial equity within education. This study utilizes Afro-pessimism and The Afterlife of Slavery as theoretical frameworks to critically examine the reactionary discourse surrounding the recent attacks and bans on Critical Race Theory (CRT) within K-12 education. This paper attempts to theorize what we might learn from the public reactions about the CRT bans and how public discourse serves to further legitimize the political arena.
