Abstract

Data-driven storytelling (DDS) means turning raw data into easy-to-understand visualized stories able to turn stakeholder insight into action. DDS provides a structured approach for communicating data insights and logic through data visualizations. In this study, we developed and tested an infographic series focused upon changing viewpoints on current policy on high stakes testing at 11+. In Trinidad and Tobago, this device is used to transition students to different secondary schools. We gathered information by mining various national databases to construct text and visuals telling alternative stories about student performances and outcomes in the education system. Parents, teachers, and site administrators were then asked to respond to the policy stories. We used quantitative and qualitative data to analyse the sense-making process.
