Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify how the governing relation of the U.S. education system necessitates anti-blackness. The author therefore reads Sylvia Wynter’s (2003) critique of Western humanism alongside Cedric Robinson’s (1980/2016) text, The Terms of Order: Political Science and the Myth of Leadership, to discuss how the governing structures of U.S. education sustain the hierarchical ranking of humanness that lowly positions Black people. Given this reframing, the author advances what they call Black Critical Policy Analysis (BCPA). The author discursively analyze a nationally representative sample of racial equity policies as a part of larger study (Author et al., forthcoming) to demonstrate the usefulness of this approach.
