The Impact of a University-District Partnership on an Educational Leadership Preparation Program

Abstract

This study examines how a university-district partnership catalyzed changes in a university-based educational leadership preparation program. We use a participatory qualitative research approach drawing on observations, interviews, and program artifacts to describe four program changes and future program work. Changes from the partnership include the cohort structure, curricular design, joint research endeavors, and the establishment of collaborative professional routines. King’s (2014) Partnership Effectiveness Continuum help understand how changes emerged from university faculty and district leadership through their aligned goals, ongoing and trusting collaboration, consistent communication, and shared decision making.
