Abstract

There is a great deal of research-based guidance in adolescent literacy that practitioners can use to support literacy development and disciplinary learning for older readers. However, as with so many areas of education, the research-to-practice bridge for adolescent literacy is a shaky one. Professional learning plays an influential role, and this study explored the development of professional learning providers (PLPs) as they collaborated on ways to support secondary educators’ knowledge of research-based practices. This case study presents engagement with research of PLPs (N = 22) from one state in the western U.S. Findings include PLPs’ existing extensive knowledge of research and their need for more tools for translating research to practice with the teachers they support.
