Black Mothers' Reflections on Distance Learning Practices During Shelter-in-Place

Abstract

As educators and policy-makers adopt long-term guidelines for distance education, researchers suggests that we on constructing complex distance learning instruction, policies, and teacher practices for families of color. The purpose of the study is to generate useful information that will provide guidance for K-12 administrators, educators, community associations, and researchers to consider as districts adopt various distance learning strategies and set new student performance expectations in the future. The study involved one-on-on interviews with 12 Black women who had children in PreK12 schools during the shelter-in-place dictates. Using Critical Race Theory the researchers address the following question: What were the experiences of Black working mothers as they attempted to meet the distance learning needs of their children during shelter-in-place?
