Expanding Law- and Policy-Relevant Discourse Within Special Education Research

Sun, April 16, 4:40 to 6:10pm CDT (4:40 to 6:10pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

This presentation asks which leading special education journals specifically cite legal and policy analysis as research methodologies that are appropriate for peer-reviewed manuscript submissions. Stemming from these findings, this presentation argues why it may be necessary to consider expanding the field of special education to include more peer-reviewed academic journals with a predominant focus on special education and disability law and policy, as an understanding of how law and policy shape the academic and personal lives of students with disabilities and their families remains pertinent.
