This survey of 350 college students examines how they use social media for everyday life information seeking purposes, including the frequency with which they engage in different networked knowledge activities. Findings show that while students frequently use platforms associated with personal social networking, such as Instagram, professional platforms like LinkedIn are less commonly used. Additionally, students are much more likely to engage in searching and private communications than in active posting, and tagging and organization activities are also infrequently used. Among students who tag, share, or create for online spaces, multiple activities co-occur within each category. This study has implications for skills that might be supported through online learning activities to prepare students for using social media in the workforce.
