This paper presents implementation and impact findings from a large-scale experimental study of ASSISTments, a free web-based formative assessment tool for math teachers that produced positive effects on rural students’ math learning in a prior efficacy study (Roschelle et al., 2016).
Because ASSISTments is web-based and can be used in hybrid and fully online classroom settings, teachers were able to continue to use the program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the study's findings from a national, diverse sample of schools provide researchers, practitioners, and policymakers with important information on math teaching and learning during this unprecedented period in U.S. education.
