Collaborative Coaching: Developing Advocacy for Multilingual Learners

Abstract

Researchers are calling for a new paradigm for coaching that focuses on addressing systemic educational inequalities through developing professional advocacy. In an effort to speak into this dialogue, we are developing a multi-faceted coaching process involving both peer coaching and teacher educator coaching. This process focuses on developing culturally sustaining professional practices and developing advocacy practices. In this paper we will share what we have learned about what teachers have identified as coaching practices that have facilitated changes in their beliefs and professional practices with multilingual learners (MLs) regarding advocacy practices.
