Abstract

This paper is a result of a study group about Paulo Freire’s book “Pedagogy in Process: The Letters to Guinea-Bissau”. In this article, we discuss three ideas of Freirean pedagogy contained in this book and how they contribute to an environmental education desde el Sur. We identified the following points: the understanding of education as a political process, which defines its non-neutrality; the recognition of people as subjects of knowledge, which implies the development of educational processes through the systematization of knowledge with the population and never for it; and the decolonization of minds and the re-Africanization of mentalities.
