Abstract

Inequity in school districts can produce complex problems within school communities. Researchers and practitioners seeking to understand perceptions of equity and inclusion across a school community may struggle to find valid and reliable quantitative tools. This exploratory study describes the development and validity inquiry review of the School Community & Inclusiveness Scales (SCEI) to measure student perceptions (SCEI-S), school personnel perceptions (SCEI-P), and community stakeholder perceptions (SCEI-C) of equity and inclusiveness, tools originally developed as part of an equity audit of a school district. Rasch analyses provide evidence that the three scales may be productive for measurement and may be useful for others engaged in capturing perceptions of equity from multiple stakeholder groups.
